In an unprecedented development the Commander of the Royal Saudi Land Forces, Lt Gen Fahd Bin Abdullah Mohammed Al-Mutair arrived in India on a two-day visit. This is the first-ever visit by a serving Royal Saudi Land Forces Commander to India and marks deepening bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.
Lt Gen Fahd Bin Abdullah Mohammed Al-Mutair was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour at South Block where he was received by Chief of the Army Staff of Indian Army Gen MM Naravane who briefed him on bilateral security issues.
Significantly Gen Fahd Bin Abdullah Mohammed Al-Mutair’s visit to India comes close to Gen Naravane’s historic visit to Saudi Arabia in December 2020 – the first time an Indian Army Chief had visited Saudi Arabia.
According to defence analysts, Gen Fahd Bin Abdullah Mohammed Al-Mutair’s visit will bolster bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.
The relationship between India and Saudi Arabia has grown owing to common interests in economic prosperity, eliminating the scourge of terrorism and mitigating the effects of climate change. Defence diplomacy forms one of the major tenets of the overall relationship.
