The Syrian national army of Bashar al-Assad had been resolutely holding out against the rebels in the Syrian Civil War since the last 13 years without any significant change in the status quo, occasional minor fluctuations in fortunes notwithstanding. There is absolutely no report from any quarter in the world that his army had suffered any loss of its military capability or the rebels had suddenly and mysteriously come into possession of some fantastic weaponry that tilted the balance in their favour. Then, how is it that his army collapsed in just 12 days flat? It does not happen.
To even remotely suggest that it was a military victory of the rebels is an insult to human intellect and any pretension to even a perfunctory understanding of matters military.
Everything that happened in Syria screams out aloud that it was a bloodless coup engineered by the American Deep State (referring to the complex network of government agencies, intelligence services, and other institutions that ‘in utter secrecy and through subtle means’ shape and implement US foreign policy), much like the coup they had earlier engineered in Bangladesh. The loyalty of the key officers of the national army was won over by bribery or by other means and obviously under a deal, they handed over the country to the rebels without firing a single shot. It was a virtual walkover. The rebels themselves would be embarrassed to call it a victory.
It was under that deal only that Assad was allowed to fly safely out of Syria to Moscow, much like the way the Bangladesh army had allowed Sheikh Hasina to flee, facilitating her first with an army helicopter and then with a C-130 plane to flee to India. Had the army not wanted and agreed, there was no way Assad could have flown out of the country. He could very easily have been imprisoned, tortured and executed publicly.
The American Deep State is clever alright but not so clever as to not allow its nefarious designs not to be exposed to a logical analysis as presented here. They wanted to make the farce of 12-day long operation appear like a military victory of the rebels who had been supported by them over the years. However, there was no way the rebels could have won the war militarily.
The simple fact is that there were no pitched battles at all anywhere. The army was not defeated in battles, it simply refused to fight. Why? Because there was a deal with the Devil. They betrayed Assad and their nation in return for money, clemency or both.
The army was seen abandoning its arms, ammunition and even vehicles without fighting. Soldiers were seen abandoning their uniforms also before fleeing. That there was a deal of the rebels with the army is clearly evident from the fact that even before the rebels walked unmolested into Damascus without a shot having been fired, the army was allowed to withdraw in an organized manner from Daraa without any fight. Could anyone in the world expect the Jihadi brutes known for torturing and beheading prisoners to behave that way? Since when did they become so civilized and why?
You cannot blame it on loss of morale in the army or its demoralisation, or fatigue due to fighting for 13 years, as some uninformed, unthinking journalists have been peddling. No way. Even a third-rate army does not behave in that shameful a manner. You cannot blame it on the withdrawal of Russian support also. For your information, Russian support was limited essentially to aerial bombing. It cannot be argued by any stretching of military sense that the Syrian Arab Army had been able to hold out for 13 years only because the Russian warplanes had been bombing the rebel positions. The Russians withdrew air support when they realized that the army had been sold over to the Americans and there was no point of supporting them anymore.
It was outright treachery, painfully reminiscent of the infamous Battle of Plassey (1757) when the general Mir Jafar, bribed by Robert Clive, formerly a clerk of the East India Company, betrayed his king Sirajuddaula and thus paved the way for the eventual enslavement of India by the British. History of Asia is replete with instances of reprehensible treachery. In Syria, the Oriental races once again re-enacted all those inglorious episodes of history and proved how fickle the bonds of loyalty are to them and how vulnerable they are to temptations, be it money, power or whatever.
Above all, there has been no persecution of the officers of the army after the rebel takeover. The rebels are seen behaving with the army officers and government functionaries in a very friendly manner.
If Assad was really guilty of having committed all those atrocities over the years he is accused of, it is not that he had committed those atrocities single-handedly. The entire state apparatus, police and army were complicit in them. Then, how is it that the victorious rebels are not hounding them. Why are they not being tried and publicly executed? After all, don’t they and the public crave justice to be served for all the supposed horrors of decades? How could they be so forgiving? In fact, the transfer of power has been extremely smooth and functionaries of the previous government are seen cooperating with the rebels.
They very ceremoniously freed all the joyous prisoners from infamous prisons like Sednaya and made a public spectacle of it. Why is it that even the prison guards, supposedly notorious for their cruelty, were not rounded up and shot or at least jailed?
The propaganda machinery of the USA’s Deep State had accused Assad of having used chemical weapons on his own people. If you may recall, they had done the same thing for Saddam Hussain too. At that time, the report of Hans Blix, Swedish diplomat and foreign minister, in his capacity as chairman of the UN inspection commission UNMOVIC, tasked with investigating Iraq’s alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction, had found no evidence of the same. The invasion of Iraq was a monstrosity perpetrated by the neo-imperialist power that the USA is. Here too, now that they have the country of Syria under their control, why have they not found and produced any evidence of chemical weapons? In fact, nobody is even talking of it.
Had there been an iota of truth in those allegations, the US supported terrorist regime would have announced a Nuremberg like trial by now. On the contrary, Jawlani is seen very friendly with the officials (PM included) of the Assad regime. There is no purge or no persecution. Why the US is not going after all those who were supposedly partners in crimes against humanity with Assad?
On the contrary, they would like the world to believe that this terrorist Muhammad a-Jawlani is a ‘reformed man’ now. A tweet of the US Embassy in Syria dated May 15, 2017 carried a photo of Muhammad al-Jawlani with the caption ‘Stop this terrorist’, and said “We remain committed to bringing leading AQS figures in HTS to justice. #Syria”. Lest this tweet be deleted by the time you read this, a screenshot can be seen in my tweet on that. His terrorist past is now both forgotten and forgiven. Now he is a partner, friend and associate of the USA. In entire human history, have you ever seen such despicable hypocrisy, opportunism and absolute lack of morals? How utterly unprincipled the USA could be. The Syrian episode might be a strategic victory over Russia but, in the process, the Deep State of USA exposed its utter hypocrisy and unprincipled conduct.
To those who might have forgotten, I must remind that HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham), which now holds power in Syria, is a Sunni Islamist Jihadi group that emerged from the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front. Their ostensible aim is to establish an Islamic state in Syria. I do not have any problems with that but imagine; the USA sleeping with former al-Qaeda? By God, is the American public really so dumb? Has the horror of 9/11 been forgotten so quickly? Was the much-touted Global War on Terror a farce as most US foreign policy matter is?
Jeffrey Sachs, a renowned economist and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, has all along been extremely critical of the US government for its role in undermining the Syrian government’s efforts to combat terrorism, and for pursuing a policy of regime change in Syria. Those in the USA who do not denounce their government, I must hold that they are indeed dumb.
Those who, under the influence of the American propaganda, have been conditioned into believing that there was indeed popular opposition to the Assad regime and that it all started when the winds of the so-called Arab Spring swept over Syria also, even if they cannot read the voluminous amount of material available on it in public domain, must read at least one 2011 article in the New York Times by Ron Nixon.
I am not peddling any conspiracy theories. However, Arab Spring was a US Deep State covert operation. Nixon’s article ‘U.S. Groups Helped Nurture Arab Uprisings’ reveals with evidence that the US government and US-funded organizations, such as the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI) had been providing training, financial support, and other resources to opposition groups in Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, and other countries. Besides that, in 2011, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton mentioned that the US had provided ‘support’ to the protesters in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya. In 2012, the New York Times again reported that the US had provided financial and logistical support to groups involved in the Arab Spring protests. In 2015, a leaked email from Hillary Clinton’s private server revealed that she had been briefed on the role of the US in supporting the Arab Spring protests.
I am not disregarding the demands of autonomy by the Kurds. I am also aware of the support, which Assad received from a terrorist organization like Hezbollah in fighting. But none of it has got anything to do with the Syrian army having been bought over.
How exactly the Deep State or the Intelligence Community of the USA pulled off this operation would obviously not be known easily as it would be a top secret. For obvious reasons, we cannot know how much they paid to whom? However, it stands to reason that they ensured that the matter of their involvement in Syria is over before Trump takes charge because his position on the matter is well-known.
Agreed, from the professional perspective of covert operations, this is an excellent operation in which they pulled the rug under the feet of Russia and Iran. The infamous ‘Axis of Resistance’ created by Iran has been shattered. Taking advantage of that, Israel has carried out extensive air strikes on Syria and has methodically damaged most of its military resources. It is not clear whether Russia will continue to hang on to its air base and naval base or will pull out. However, even if they hang on, it is not going to serve much purpose hereafter.
Had the rebels, even if supported and armed by the USA, defeated Assad in a fair fight in open battles, it would have been a matter of glory. But, it is only degenerate people and nations that achieve something by bribing what they cannot achieve by the force of their arms as real men of honour should. Since 18th century, England was pejoratively called ‘Perfidious Albion’ for its acts of diplomatic slights, duplicity, and treachery; in view of American sins, the title suits the USA better. If you remember Shakespeare’s Macbeth, I must say, all the perfumes of Arabia shall not sweeten that little hand, Uncle Sam!
