Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the state government, the Uttar Pradesh Sugar Industry and Cane Development Department will organize special awareness and enrolment programs during the second week of July 2026 in all cooperative cane development committees of the state.
The objective is to ensure social security, economic protection, and welfare schemes for sugarcane farmers and their families. This campaign is an important initiative by the state government toward the social and economic empowerment of farmers, through which more sugarcane farmers, and their families will be connected to various insurance, pension, and social security schemes.

For the successful implementation of the campaign, a coordination meeting will be held in each district before June 30, 2026, under the chairmanship of the District Cane Officer. Participants will include the Lead District Manager (LDM), Chairpersons of cooperative cane development committees, IFFCO representatives, General Managers of concerned sugar mills, Senior Cane Development Inspectors, and Committee Secretaries. The meeting will discuss the detailed action plan, scheduling of workshops, roles of different institutions, and measures to ensure maximum farmer participation.
The Commissioner also stated that under this program, three-day farmer workshops will be organized in smaller cane committees and five-day workshops in larger committees. In these workshops, farmers and their families will be provided detailed information about schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, and other social security schemes. Eligible beneficiaries will also be enrolled on the spot. At the workshop venues, joint assistance and enrolment counters will be set up by banks, IFFCO, sugar mills, and cane committees. Through these counters, farmers will receive information about scheme eligibility, required documents, premiums, benefits, and the enrolment process. Additionally, arrangements will be made for registering new farmer members in the committee, opening bank accounts, photocopying documents, and other necessary services so that farmers can access all facilities at one place.

The Commissioner further mentioned that for widespread publicity of the campaign, newspapers, pamphlets, banners, posters, village-level meetings, and public outreach activities will be organized. Cane supervisors have been tasked with visiting all villages in their respective areas to inform farmers about program dates, scheme benefits, and required documents, and to ensure their participation. Women from self-help groups will be specially invited to connect them with social security schemes and promote women’s empowerment. Targets have been set at the committee, council, district, and regional levels, under which at least 10 percent of registered cane farmers and their families will participate in the program and be covered under social security schemes. The progress of the program will be regularly monitored, and details of farmers benefiting from the schemes will be compiled and submitted to the headquarters in the third week of July 2026.
This special campaign will prove to be an important step in providing protection to sugarcane farmers and their families against accidents, death, old age, and other socio-economic risks, while also bringing them under the broader umbrella of financial and social security. It will expand the reach of social security schemes in rural areas and bring positive improvements in the living standards of farmers and their families.
