100 meters responsibility: A movement for India’s youth to build a stronger nation

Inspired by the visionary Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and the legendary Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the 100 Meters Responsibility movement calls on India’s youth to take charge of their immediate surroundings—100 meters around them—and transform these spaces into zones of justice, compassion, cleanliness, and unity. This is a pledge to embody the spirit of an ideal citizen and soldier, dedicated to the nation’s progress.

The Vision: A Nation of Empowered Zones

India is a land of immense potential, and its youth are the driving force behind its future. The 100 Meters Responsibility movement is a grassroots initiative to harness this energy, encouraging every young Indian to take ownership of the 100 meters around their home, workplace, or community. By ensuring that this small radius reflects the values of equality, justice, and unity, we can create a network of thriving micro-communities that collectively uplift the nation.

This movement draws inspiration from two towering figures: Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, whose dreams ignited millions to strive for excellence, and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, whose courage and leadership strengthened India’s pride. Their lives exemplify the perfect blend of patriotism, discipline, and service—an ideal we seek to emulate. As a retired Army officer, I, Col. Amit Kumar, have seen the transformative power of collective action. Post-retirement, my mission is to unite India’s youth in a movement that fosters belongingness, fulfills our fundamental duties, and builds a better India, one 100-meter zone at a time.

The Pledge: Your Commitment to 100 Meters

The 100 Meters Responsibility pledge is a solemn vow to check your 100-meter radius every night before you sleep, ensuring it is a space where no one is hungry, vulnerable, or unjustly treated, and where unity and cleanliness prevail. It’s a call to act locally, with the ripple effect of transforming the nation. Below is the elaborated pledge, with each point explained to inspire action:

Ensure No One Sleeps Hungry

Pledge: I will check my 100-meter area to ensure no one goes to bed hungry, offering food or connecting people to local resources like community kitchens or NGOs.
