Shrine of `Abdu’l-Bahá

Next to Báb and Bahá’u’lláh ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, the eldest son and successor of Bahá’u’lláh, is a prominent figure in the Bahá’í Faith. He was the head of the Bahá’í Faith from 1892 to 1921. Originally called ‘Abbás Effendi in his childhood he was given the name `Abdu’l-Bahá Abbas (servant of the glory of God). The Bahá’í texts refer to him as “The Master”.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá passed away at the age of seventy-seven in the early hours of 28 November at Haifa in 1921. His death marked the end of the Heroic or Apostolic Age of the Bahá’í Faith, which began with Bab’s declaration on 23 May 1844, the date of his birth. After the funeral the next day, his mortal remains were laid to rest in one of the rooms of the Shrine of Báb. They will be shifted after a new shrine is built in future.
