Searching for famous or well-known personalities is easy both online as well as in real life. There are a number of sources which can get you the desired information about a film star, top-notch politician, bureaucrat or businessman by the time you blink the eye — in an easy-to-digest format.
The real struggle is to sift through a long list of names and find credible information about not so famous, mundane and ordinary people. It’s not at all easy because there are so many people who share the same name, and it’s hard to know who’s who on the internet.
A film star, businessman or professional may have his own website, social media profile, or directory listing on so many sites. The real problem is for those people who don’t have a website or web presence.
This is something Google is trying to solve by introducing a new feature called people cards. They are almost like virtual visiting cards which allow you to share details about your website, social media profile and other relevant information to help people know you or find out if you are worth their while.
The prime purpose of people cards is to allow individuals to have a public profile on Google, make it easier for people to find you and thus facilitate meaningful interaction.
The purpose behind the people card is to make it quick and easy to find the right person. The People Card not only displays a person’s name but also his profession and location. The People Card has a feature that allows you to sift through several people with the same name and find more about the person you are looking for.
Creating a people card is easy. All you have to do is to sign in to your Google Account and start building your people card with your name, image, description about yourself, links to your website or social media profiles, and, if you want, a phone number or email address. Once all this has been done a phone number is required to authenticate the account.
The goal is to always make people find reliable information, prevent spam. Only one people card is allowed per Google Account. There are a number of mechanisms to protect against abusive or spam content. People, who do not want their name to appear in Search, can delete it at any time.
The people’s card could prove to be a blessing in disguise for millions of influencers, entrepreneurs, self-employed individuals, freelancers, or anyone who want to be discovered
The people cards feature is limited to India for the time being, and there are no expansion plans to share right now.
