What’s there in a name. Lots if you look carefully.

India’s leading car maker Tata Motors, is considering re-naming its new  hatchback car because Zica sounds similar to the deadly Zika virus.

Tata Motors, displayed its soon-to-be launched hatchback – ‘Zica’ for the first time at the Auto Expo 2016.

Though initially called  ‘Zica’ a new name is expected to be announced soon.

Expected to be priced around Rs 4,00,000, Zica is being positioned as a competitor to the Hyundai Grand i10and Maruti Suzuki Celerio.

The Zica offers features that are designed to fit a dynamic lifestyle. Zica comes with inviting interiors, complemented by the layered design theme coupled with a dual tone interior, customizable air vents and premlum graphics on fabric. The body hugging seat bolsters is crafted with utmost precision for the premium feel and exemplifies elegance.

Tata Zica comes initially with a 5-speed manual gearbox. An automated manual transmission (AMT) will be introduced at a later stage.

It  will be manufactured at the company’s Sanand plant in Gujarat, and sold alongside the existing Indica eV2.

The new hatchback will be available with two engine options – a 83.8bhp, 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and an all-new 69.04bhp, 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel – both developed in-house, and are claimed to deliver refined performance.

The vehicle is assembled with 14-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 175/65 R14 tubeless tyres. The vehicle measures 3,746mm in length, 1,647mm in width and 1,535mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,400mm. It has a ground clearance of 170mm, and offers a fuel tank capacity of 35-litres. This new entry-level car will be available in a choice of 6 colors – Sunburst Orange, Platinum Silver, Striker Blue, Pearlescent White, Espresso Brown and Berry Red.

According to informed sources, the company decided to rebrand the car to empathise with the hardships caused by the outbreak of the Zika virus in many countries.

The World Health Organisation has declared the Zika virus a global emergency because of its explosive spread across the Americas.
