155 IPS officers visit 8th battalion NDRF

155 IPS officers visit 8th battalion NDRF

A batch of 155 IPS officers (75 RR batch) undergoing training at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad visited the 8th Battalion NDRF, Kamla Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad for a one-day disaster management training and orientation program.

Bharat Bhushan Vaid, DIG NDRF and Niraj Kumar Thakur, Second-in-Command, 8th Batallion NDRF welcomed the IPS officers.

DIG, Bharat Bhushan Vaid, NDRF gave a presentation to the officers on the overall concept of disaster management, the functioning of NDRF, incident response, the role of police during disasters and coordination with civil authorities. After this, a demonstration of the state-of-the-art equipment used during CBRN disasters, floods and earthquakes was also shown.

Deputy Commandant Kunal Tiwari gave information about HAZMAT VEHICLE.

This was followed up by a demonstration by Deputy Commandant, Deepak Talwar on rescuing people trapped in collapsed structures and tall buildings during an earthquake by the teams of NDRF experts.

The IPS officers were thrilled to see a demonstration search and rescue by NDRF dogs and rope rescue by NDRF jawans.

Apart from this, the IPS officers were quite impressed to see a demonstration of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Operations (CBRN) and the relief work to be done in case of leakage of chemical and poisonous gas.

The IPS officers were quite happy to witness the proceedings and greatly appreciated the training and performance given by the skilled rescuers of the NDRF 8th Battalion.

NDRF 8th Battalion Second-in-Command Niraj Kumar Thakur spoke on the role of police during and after disasters, as well as how to establish effective coordination links between various government departments and civil organizations to ensure the smooth functioning of disaster management operations.

National Disaster Response Force is the world’s single largest force dedicated to disaster response. Its motto is आपदा सेवा सदैव सर्वत्र – meaning Sustained Disaster Response Service under all circumstances. 

The eighth battalion largely comprises trained personnel from ITBP who have been trained in various aspects of disaster management to be the first responders and save precious human lives and property in case of emergency.
