Netflix set to launch ‘Gunjan Saxena- the Kargil girl’

Netflix, which is investing heavily in Indian films and series across all genres and for all generations, has launched its user interface in Hindi.

The complete Netflix experience in Hindi, from sign-up to search rows, collections and payment, is available across all devices on mobile, TV and web.

Netflix members can switch to the Hindi user interface from the Language option in the ‘Manage Profiles’ section on their desktop, TV or mobile browsers.

On Netflix, members can set up to five profiles in each account, and each profile can have its own language setting. Netflix members outside India will also have the option to switch their user interface to Hindi.

“Delivering a great Netflix experience is as important to us as creating great content. We believe the new user interface will make Netflix even more accessible and better suit members who prefer Hindi,” said Netflix India VP-Content Monika Shergill in a statement.

Indian films include hits like Sacred Games, Bulbbul, Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai and Mighty Little Bheem.

The company recently announced a line-up of 17 stories, including Ludo, A Suitable Boy and Mismatched and the upcoming film Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl which will release on 12 August.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language biographical film directed by Sharan Sharma and produced under Dharma Productions and Zee Studios. The film stars Jahnvi Kapoor as Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena, the first Indian female air-force pilot in combat, alongside Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Manav Vij, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Ayesha Raza Mishra in supporting roles.

The film was announced on 26 December 2018 as Jhanvi shared the first look. Principal photography commenced on and was wrapped up in October; it was extensively filmed across Lucknow. Netflix acquired the distribution rights and will stream the film worldwide. It will stream on 12 August 2020 on Netflix.

The film was scheduled to release theatrically on 13 March 2020. However, that release postponed to 24 April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was then pulled from the schedule. Netflix later acquired distribution rights to the film and on 9 June 2020 Netflix released a teaser video introducing Gunjan Saxena and announcing that the film will be streamed on 12 August 2020 on Netflix.
