100 peope who matter in Indian politics and their current age

Politics is the only profession in India without any retirement age. Most of the government servants – Civil servants, Supreme Court/ High Court judges including Chief Justice of India, army and police officers, central and state government employees in India retire by the age of 60 -65 years to make way for the younger generations and regular infusion of new ideas.

On the other hand major national parties and regional outfits who account for the Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, MPs and MLAs have one thing in common– apart from their name and election symbol. They are all managed or run by individuals past their prime. Most of the 100 people who matter in Indian politics today, irrespective of their political affiliation are in the 60-80 years age bracket. They argue that experience and wisdom come with age. These influential figures from the Congress, BJP, AAP, TMC, AIDMK or the Left parties who play a role in shaping the nation’s policies and political ideologies — have decades of experience but have no idea about what the 345 million youth who constitute more than half of India’s population feel, like or want.

India has one of the world’s youngest populations, with an average age of 29 years. More than 27.2% of the population is between 15 to 29 years of age. More than half of India’s population is under 25, and more than 65% is under 35. Youth contribute about 34% of India’s Gross National Income (GNI) and are the leaders in business, education, and academia. But strangely there is hardly any top ranking youth leader in the Congress, BJP, AAP, TMC, AIDMK or Left parties who is being groomed to lead the country at an appropriate time in future.

Here is list of 100 key politicians in India today and their current age:

    Conclusion:

In India, politics is the only profession which allows people to hold power till as long as they can and wish to do so. This not only leads to nepotism, and uneven distribution of power in the hands of a few political families but also denies a chance for young, and dynamic leaders to emerge.

As India looks toward the future, introduction of age or term limits in Indian politics could ensure that the leadership remains diverse, vibrant, and responsive to the needs of the rapidly changing nation.
