Maj Gen SCN Jatar
Former CMD – Oil India Limited
Commissioned in the Bombay Sappers (Corps of Engineers) with June 07, 1954 seniority Maj Gen. SCN Jatar (Sudhir) commanded an infantry brigade each in Kashmir and Rajasthan before serving as Staff Officer to Gen. K. V. Krishna Rao Expert Committee for assessing the external threats to India in a 25-year period and reorganization of the Indian Army.
During the 1971 War, he commanded the 105 Engineer Regiment in the Poonch Sector in J&K (1971-1975). Jatar and his men accompanying the advancing 95 Infantry Brigade laid roads, cleared minefields, constructed underground bunkers and helipad – which helped in the capture of Nangi Tekri and success in the battle of Poonch.
Some of his other outstanding achievements include heading the Indian Military Training Team and Chief Instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, Nigeria, General Staff Officer HQ Corps, Group Adjutant Bombay Engineer Group & Centre, and instructor at the Infantry School, Mhow.
After a distinguished career in the Army, Gen Jatar went on to create a niche for himself as CMD of Oil India, CMD ONGC Videsh Limited, and Chairman SCOPE (apex body of the PSUs).
General Jatar was consultant to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, President of RPG Petrochem Ltd and MD of Garware Shipping Limited. He served on the governing board of the Pune University Senate and Pune Stock Exchange.
Even today Gen. Jatar is known for his expertise in Oil and petroleum sector. He was consultant to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, President, RPG Petrochem Ltd and MD, Garware Shipping Limited and served on the governing board of the Pune University Senate and Pune Stock Exchange.
After retirement he has dedicated himself to selfless social service and is President Emeritus of Nagrik Chetna Manch which aims to bring transparency in governance. He also runs an educational trust in the name of his mother, Jiji (Vimala), a Dixit girl from Nagpur.
