A Vigilance Court in Thrissur Kerala, ordered an F.I.R. to be filed against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Power Minister Aryadan Muhammed in the 2013 Solar scam case.
The court’s order follows revelations made by scam’s prime accused Sarita Nair before the Justice Sivarajan Commission probing the case.
Deposing before the Justice Sivarajan Commission Nair admitted to having paid bribe to the tune of Rs 1.90 crore to a close aide of the Chief Minister and Rs 40 lakh to the Power Minister. The court ordered filing of F.I.R. on a public interest litigation filed by one T.D. Joseph .
Reacting to the Court order Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said this is a political conspiracy of the liquor lobby. Opposition leader V. S. Achudanandan, is demandding that the Governor should oust the Oommen Chandy Government.
Solar scam pertains to bribes being paid by Saritha Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan for getting solar panel projects.
Born in the Kottayam district of Kerala Oommen Chandy or ‘Kunjoonji Chandy’ is the 21st chief minister of the state.
Chandy is no stranger to controversies as his name figured prominently in the Palm Oil case, which happened when he was Finance Minister in 1992. He had to give up the Vigilance Portfolio in early August 2011, after a fresh probe was ordered in the Palm Oil case.
