Most of us would agree with the fact that COVID-2019 has turned the world upside down. Everything has been impacted. How we live and interact with each other, how we work and communicate how we move around and travel. Almost every aspect of our lives has been affected. However, despite these negative effects, there are many positive effects which many of us would have observed and are also experiencing while most of the world is under Lock-down. It is so wonderful to see that during such disasters, suddenly we all forget our caste, creed, religion, gender, status, and come together leaving aside our ego, our limitations, and needs, to focus solely on survival and sharing hope and compassion. We simply do this because we cannot bear to see the misery and suffering of our fellow beings and hence, their pain becomes ours. Just imagine not being able to be a part of the last rites of a loved one and being helpless at not getting a hospital bed for a loved one; all in a single wave! Under such circumstances, when a sudden help arrives from a person who is not even known to us, it makes our belief more strong in humanity and spirituality.

It is so ironic that armed forces across the globe are today not fighting each other, but are distributing food, water, and medicines to their citizens. From where does this loving humanity arise so spontaneously at times like this? Today, we have a renewed sense of trust in every human being as well as the government as we continue to part with our wealth and services, hoping that they will reach the right and needy that needs them most.

The global pandemic as well as other natural disasters that we are witnessing today is in a way a reflection of our inner world; mirroring the tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes that continually break out in our minds. The ruthless energy of anger, violence, and greed has taken a toll on mankind and mother earth. As we keep on exploiting earths mineral resources, hack its forests, pollute its water, deplete its soil, we rob it of all its energy. Thus this is nature’s way of telling us that ‘Enough is Enough’! Since most of us do not realize that mother earth has a heart and she too has feelings, we keep on hurting her without any kind of remorse. Just like we express our love and affection towards our mother, we should do the same with mother earth by expressing our gratitude and show some respect.

The majority of us ‘Thank’ anyone who gives us something or helps us in some way and say ‘Sorry’ while we hurt someone or behave badly with someone. But, do we do the same with mother earth? How many of us have thanked her for the free- air, water, food, sun, and many more things that she gives us since the time we have existed. How many of us have told her sorry for inflicting so much pain to her? Many would counter-question, how do we do this? Or how do we communicate with nature? Well! The simplest and easiest way to do this is by praying or meditating with positive thoughts which most of us can do. Remember! You never know the impact of your pure and positive thoughts, but one must not forget a fact that there is a deep connection that we all share with the mother earth, a feeling, a knowing that at the time of need she would certainly come and defend me and carry me to safety. Hence, we must realise that natural disasters, in particular, are a wake-up call as to where we are investing all our energies. Are we too busy giving value to accumulating, hoarding, storing, stockpiling material wealth and possessions and not giving enough time to uplift the soul? It is quite unfortunate that we need such disasters to bring the world together as one big family. Isn’t it time to be wise enough and not commit the same mistakes that we have been committing till now? If only our vision would remain the same for all the time, a vision of Oneness, embracing all, being non-judgemental, creating harmony in a relationship, so that we can be there for each other no matter what, as a family would be.

So, let us all come together as ONE, to help and support every member of the global human family and start respecting and loving mother nature that is a life-giver. Remember! No status or wealth would ever matter during disasters, the only thing that would matter would be our positive, good karma, which would help us tide over bad situations and carry us forward.
