A suspected child rapist from Niger accused of kidnapping two girls in Benin after he escaped from a Niamey prison has been arrested in Togo.
Amadou Boubacar was identified and taken into custody following a joint investigation involving police in Benin, Togo and Niger, after he abducted a 10-year-old girl from Cotonou, Benin on 23 December 2014.
After receiving information the 48-year-old may have travelled to Togo, on 24 January the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Niamey sent a message requesting NCB Lomé’s assistance to locate Boubacar and the missing child.
Information exchanged between the involved NCBs and the CCC led to the Boubacar’s arrest in Lomé on 16 February when he was discovered with a second 10-year-old girl who had been kidnapped from a school in Benin 10 days previously.
Boubacar told police he had left the first girl at a hospital in Lomé in January, and NCB Cotonou confirmed she had been safely returned to her family. The second 10-year-old victim was also reunited with her family in Benin.
The suspect is currently being held in Togo pending extradition to Niger where he had previously been charged with the rape of a minor and embezzlement.
