88 Pakistani fishermen lodged in Indian jails were released and the cases against them have been withdrawn on humanitarian grounds with the consent of the competent courts.
These 88 Pakistani fishermen have left Gujarat and will be handed over to the Pakistani authorities at Attari border on June 21, 2015.
The decision was taken by the government of India in consultation with Government of Gujarat so that the Pakistani fishermen could be with their family during the month of Ramzan.
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi conveyed the decision to his Pakistani counterpart during a telephonic talk.
In all 115 Pakistani fishermen are presently lodged in jails in Gujarat. The Centre decided to release 88 Pakistani fishermen, whose nationality has been confirmed by the Government of Pakistan.
There are reports that the nationality of 9 more Pakistani fishermen has been confirmed by Pakistan, though the MHA is yet to receive any communication in this regard.
The remaining 27 Pakistani fishermen lodged in jails in Gujarat will be released when their nationality is confirmed by the Pakistani High Commission in India.
